JESSICA LYNN: MORE THAN MUSIC – UNPLUGGED

There are gigs, there are concerts, and then there are those rare evenings when the music becomes something altogether more personal. When the lights come down, the big production disappears and the artist steps out from behind the show to reveal the stories, memories and moments that created the songs in the first place. Jessica Lynn's "More Than Music – Unplugged" promises to be exactly that kind of night when this internationally acclaimed New York singer-songwriter arrives at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre for what could be one of the most intimate performances we have ever hosted.

The title really does say it all: More Than Music. This isn't simply Jessica Lynn arriving with an acoustic guitar and playing quieter versions of songs normally heard with a full band. It is about stripping everything back and getting closer to the person behind them. The journeys, relationships, triumphs, disappointments, crazy adventures and deeply personal experiences that eventually become a lyric, a melody and, finally, a song. For one evening, the audience is being invited behind the curtain and into Jessica's world.

And what a world it has been. Hailing from New York, Jessica has built an extraordinary international career through sheer talent, determination and an almost unstoppable work ethic. She has toured extensively around the globe, achieved 22 charting releases across 22 countries, appeared in nationwide television concert specials and shared stages with an incredible collection of artists including Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, Loretta Lynn, ZZ Top and Richard Marx. She has been featured by major American music and entertainment outlets including Billboard, CMT, People and American Songwriter, while her live performances have earned her a fiercely loyal international following.

But More Than Music – Unplugged isn't really about the résumé. In many ways, it is about what remains when you put the résumé to one side.

Take away the chart positions. Take away the television cameras. Take away the festival stages, the full band and the roar of thousands of people. What remains is the thing that started the journey in the first place: a songwriter, a voice, an instrument and something that needed to be said.

That is where this show becomes fascinating.

Jessica is a formidable multi-instrumentalist, at home on guitar, piano, harmonica and drums, and her full live performances are renowned for their energy and powerhouse delivery. Yet Unplugged offers something completely different. Songs can breathe. Lyrics suddenly move to the foreground. A line you may have heard a dozen times can take on an entirely different meaning when the person who wrote it tells you what happened the night, day, heartbreak or chance encounter that inspired it.

That is More Than Music. It is the story before the song. The memory behind the lyric. The person behind the performer.

Jessica certainly has plenty of stories to tell. She has performed the U.S. National Anthem at Madison Square Garden and at major NASCAR and NHL events, represented American music internationally through the U.S. Department of State's American Music Abroad programme and used her growing profile to support humanitarian causes close to her heart. Her achievements beyond the concert stage have even taken her to the United Nations in connection with Women's Entrepreneurship Day.

Her recording career has been equally remarkable. Jessica's debut album, Lone Rider, reached No.1 on the digital country charts in both the USA and UK, while her follow-up, All I Own, pushed her story still further, reaching No.1 on the digital country chart and No.2 across all genres, alongside significant positions on the American country, independent and Billboard sales charts. For a fiercely independent artist, it represents a remarkable journey.

But once again, More Than Music – Unplugged asks us to look beyond those numbers.

What did it take to get there?

What happens when the tour bus stops, the crowd disappears and the adrenaline wears off? What does it really mean to build a career thousands of miles from home? Who are the people behind the songs? Which moments changed everything? Which songs nearly never happened? Which lyrics came from joy, which came from pain, and which arrived when they were least expected?

Those are the things that make an evening like this special.

There is another side to Jessica's story too, and perhaps it explains why the word "More" feels particularly appropriate. With a Master's Degree in education, she created Tips and Tricks for the Independent Musician, sharing the knowledge gained from building her own career to help other musicians understand the realities of surviving and succeeding independently. Add her humanitarian work, international cultural work and advocacy to her achievements as a recording and touring artist, and More Than Music starts to feel less like the title of a show and more like a description of Jessica Lynn herself.

And then there is Barnoldswick.

There is something rather wonderful about an artist who has sung at Madison Square Garden, travelled the world and performed on huge stages walking down the steps into our tiny listening room at Barnoldswick Music & Arts Centre.

Our capacity is 60 people. That changes everything. At Barnoldswick you don't watch an artist from half a football pitch away. There are no giant screens required. There is nowhere for the emotion to disappear. You can hear the fingers moving across the strings, the breath before the first line and the silence in the room when a story suddenly hits home.

For a show called More Than Music – Unplugged, it is difficult to imagine a more appropriate setting.

Country music, after all, has always been built upon storytelling. Before the giant arenas, enormous productions and video screens, there was simply somebody with a song and a story worth telling. Love, loss, family, home, ambition, heartbreak, hope, the open road and all those strange little moments that somehow stay with us for a lifetime.

More Than Music – Unplugged takes us back there. This won't simply be about hearing Jessica Lynn. It will be about getting to know Jessica Lynn.

Hearing why the songs exist. Discovering what happened before the first lyric was written. Sharing some of the laughter, madness, heartbreak and adventure accumulated during a career that has taken a girl from New York across the world and onto stages alongside genuine musical legends.

And for perhaps 60 people in a little room in Barnoldswick, Lancashire, those enormous achievements suddenly become beautifully irrelevant. Because for one evening there will be no distance between artist and audience.

Just a voice. A guitar. A room. A collection of songs. And the stories behind every one of them.

That is Jessica Lynn: More Than Music – Unplugged.

And sometimes, when you strip everything else away, you discover that the music was only ever the beginning of the story.
