The Truffle Valley Boys – Europe's Finest Keepers of Traditional Bluegrass

The Truffle Valley Boys are not simply a bluegrass band — they are a living, breathing celebration of the music's golden age. Hailing from Italy yet deeply rooted in the hills of Kentucky and the sounds of 1940s and 1950s America, the quartet has become one of the most respected traditional bluegrass acts anywhere in Europe.

Founded in 2014 by mandolinist and vocalist Matt Ringressi alongside acclaimed roots music veteran Ruben Minuto, the band has spent the last decade carving out a reputation for authenticity, musicianship and showmanship that has won them admirers across the globe. Their commitment to preserving the original spirit of bluegrass is uncompromising. Performing around a single microphone, dressed in period style and using vintage-correct instrumentation, they recreate the atmosphere of a bygone era with remarkable precision and infectious enthusiasm.

Their dedication has not gone unnoticed. The Truffle Valley Boys have become festival favourites throughout Europe, travelling thousands of miles annually to headline prestigious roots, Americana and bluegrass events. Their recordings have received international airplay and critical acclaim, earning praise from leading publications such as Bluegrass Unlimited and Bluegrass Today. In a remarkable achievement for a European band, the group is even featured in a permanent exhibit at the Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame & Museum in Owensboro, Kentucky — recognition reserved for artists who have made a genuine contribution to the preservation and advancement of bluegrass music.

What makes The Truffle Valley Boys truly special is their devotion to the lesser-known regional bluegrass pioneers of the 1950s. Rather than simply revisiting the familiar classics, they dig deep into the rich catalogue of forgotten mountain music, bringing rare songs and styles back to life with passion, energy and meticulous attention to detail. The result is a performance that feels less like a concert and more like stepping into a time machine.

At the heart of the band is the charismatic Matt Ringressi, whose fascination with bluegrass began at the age of three after hearing a banjo on The Muppet Show. Since then, he has devoted his life to the music, performing internationally for more than fifteen years and earning a reputation as one of Europe's foremost authorities on traditional bluegrass and country music. Equally at home on mandolin, fiddle and guitar, Ringressi combines dazzling musicianship with scholarly knowledge, researching historic recordings and forgotten artists to ensure the band's sound remains true to its roots.

Banjo player and vocalist Germano Ciavone brings fire and authenticity to the group's sound. Raised in Carpinone, the village that inspired the band's name and nestled within Italy's famous "Truffle Valley," Ciavone draws inspiration from legendary pioneers such as Don Stover, Ralph Stanley and Jim Smoak. His driving banjo style and soaring tenor harmonies are central to the band's identity. Now based in Yorkshire, England, he is also a specialist in early twentieth-century steam locomotives and works as an engineer on heritage railway lines — a fitting occupation for someone devoted to preserving history.

Resonator guitarist and vocalist Denny Rocchio is another passionate student of traditional American music. A master of the often-overlooked Dobro styles pioneered by George "Speedy" Krise, Bashful Brother Oswald and Shot Jackson, Rocchio's playing provides much of the band's distinctive character. His mastery of authentic thumb-and-finger rhythm techniques and the legendary Carter Family "scratch" style adds a level of historical accuracy rarely heard even among American bluegrass groups.

Holding everything together is bassist Emanuele Valente, a musician whose influences stretch from bluegrass and swing to early bebop jazz. Originally from Monteroduni — birthplace of legendary jazz guitarist Eddie Lang — Valente brings both power and sophistication to the band's rhythm section. His adventurous walking bass lines and impeccable timing provide the heartbeat of every performance, driving the music forward while retaining the flexibility and swing that are essential to traditional bluegrass.

The Truffle Valley Boys are more than musicians; they are historians, entertainers and ambassadors for one of America's greatest musical traditions. Their performances are packed with dazzling instrumental virtuosity, soaring vocal harmonies, humour, warmth and the kind of authenticity that simply cannot be manufactured. Whether you're a lifelong bluegrass devotee or discovering the genre for the very first time, an evening with The Truffle Valley Boys is a joyous journey back to the birthplace of bluegrass — delivered with passion, precision and unmistakable Italian flair.

"Full steam ahead" could easily be their motto. Once they hit the stage, you'll understand exactly why audiences and critics across Europe continue to regard them as one of the most exciting traditional bluegrass bands performing today.
