Some bands are assembled. Some bands evolve.
And then there are bands like the Warner E. Hodges International All Star Band — a gathering of road warriors, rock and roll lifers, Southern soul survivors and musical outlaws whose collective history stretches from the honky-tonks of Nashville and the clubs of Atlanta to the arenas of Europe and the rock clubs of Stockholm.
Hailing from Nashville, Boston, Wisconsin and Sweden, this Juggernaught of rock is a transatlantic powerhouse that blends Southern Rock, Americana, Country, Blues and pure, unapologetic Rock & Roll into one explosive live experience. This is music forged in smoke-filled bars, festival fields, tour buses, late-night jam sessions and thousands upon thousands of miles of highway.
At the centre of it all stands Warner E. Hodges — a guitarist whose name has become synonymous with fearless, high-energy American roots rock.
Born in Würzburg, Germany, while his father served in the U.S. Army, Warner's earliest musical education came from his parents' love of country music. Long before he ever strapped on a guitar, he was playing drums in the family band. But everything changed when an older brother handed him three records that would alter the course of his life forever: the debut albums from Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
Soon after came another defining moment. Warner's father took him to see an up-and-coming British band called Deep Purple. Standing stage-side watching Ritchie Blackmore unleash torrents of sound from his Stratocaster, the young drummer knew instantly that his future lay six strings away.
Returning to America during the explosive cultural upheaval of the 1970s, Warner found himself caught between two worlds. On one side was the thunder of AC/DC, a band he still cites as his greatest influence. On the other was the raw rebellion of punk rock. When the Sex Pistols exploded across America, Warner embraced not only the music but the attitude: anybody could pick up an instrument, start a band and create something new.
That spirit would ultimately help change American music.
After working his way through Nashville's underground punk scene, Warner teamed up with Perry Baggs, Jeff Johnson and a fiery singer named Jason Ringenberg. Together they created Jason & The Scorchers, a band whose mission was simple but revolutionary: combine the storytelling heart of Hank Williams with the reckless abandon of The Ramones.
The result was unlike anything anyone had heard before.
Years before "Americana" became a recognised genre, Jason & The Scorchers were blazing the trail. Their groundbreaking fusion of country, punk and rock and roll influenced countless artists who followed. Along the way they released multiple acclaimed albums, became one of the most celebrated live bands in America and shared stages with everyone from Bob Dylan, R.E.M., The Ramones and Carl Perkins to Circle Jerks and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
Their impact was so profound that in 2008 the Americana Music Association honoured them with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award for Performance, recognising not only their recordings but their legendary status as one of the greatest live acts ever to emerge from the roots-rock underground.
Warner's next major chapter arrived in 2007 when he joined former Georgia Satellites frontman Dan Baird and drummer Mauro Magellan to form Dan Baird & Homemade Sin.
What followed was one of the most celebrated rock and roll partnerships of modern times.
Homemade Sin became renowned throughout Europe and America for sweat-soaked performances that combined Southern swagger, barroom rock and relentless energy. Across five studio albums and countless tours, Warner became the perfect musical foil for Baird's songwriting, helping establish the band as one of the most respected live outfits on either side of the Atlantic.
Alongside these projects Warner continued to build an acclaimed solo career, releasing a string of albums that showcased every side of his musical personality — from country soul and Southern rock to punk attitude and heartfelt Americana. His solo recordings have featured members of Cheap Trick, The Mavericks, Steve Earle & The Dukes and numerous other American music heavyweights, further cementing his reputation as one of the most respected guitarists of his generation.
Yet even with such an extraordinary career behind him, Warner continued searching for the perfect band.
The result is the Warner E. Hodges International All Star Band.
And what a band it is.
Joining Warner on guitar is Swedish rock royalty Conny Bloom.
Best known as the frontman of the hugely influential Electric Boys, Bloom helped pioneer a unique blend of hard rock, funk, psychedelia and groove that brought international success and established him as one of Scandinavia's most distinctive musicians. Later he joined the legendary Hanoi Rocks, contributing to their final studio albums and helping bring one of rock's most influential bands to a new generation.
Conny combines Hendrix-inspired guitar work, soulful vocals and a fearless improvisational style that perfectly complements Warner's fiery Southern attack. Together they create a twin-guitar partnership capable of moving from delicate Americana textures to full-blown Southern Rock thunder in the blink of an eye.
Anchoring the rhythm section is Keith Voegele, whose musical journey has taken him from Midwest bar bands and metal outfits to becoming one of America's most respected roots-rock bass players.
Keith's career has seen him share stages with everyone from underground metal heroes to acclaimed Americana artists. A stint with Boston thrash outfit Meliah Rage saw him perform alongside future Godsmack frontman Sully Erna before his path eventually led to Americana legends The Bottle Rockets, where he has remained a driving force for more than two decades.
His playing combines the melodic instincts of Paul McCartney, the power of Steve Harris and the song-first sensibility that defines the greatest bass players in roots music. Whether locking into a country groove or driving a Southern Rock anthem, Keith provides the heartbeat of the band.
Behind the drums sits Mauro Magellan, one of Southern Rock's true survivors.
Born in Rio de Janeiro before moving to America as a child, Mauro became a founding member of the band that would eventually conquer radio and MTV during the 1980s — The Georgia Satellites.
From Atlanta clubs to international arenas, Mauro's thunderous drumming powered classics such as Keep Your Hands To Yourself and Hippy Hippy Shake, helping define the sound of modern Southern Rock. His career has taken him around the world, but his playing still carries the same fire, groove and joy that first propelled the Satellites to stardom.
As Warner often says, there are drummers who keep time, and there are drummers who create momentum. Mauro belongs firmly in the latter category.
Completing the line-up is Swedish virtuoso Pontus Snibb, a musician so gifted that Jason & The Scorchers looked across an entire continent to recruit him. Singer. Guitarist. Drummer. Songwriter. Producer. Pontus can do it all.
Through his acclaimed work with Bonafide, numerous solo projects and Jason & The Scorchers, he has built a worldwide reputation as one of Europe's finest rock musicians. His ability to move effortlessly between hard rock, blues, Americana and country music makes him the perfect addition to this extraordinary ensemble.
His arrival injected fresh energy into the Scorchers and continues to do the same within the Warner E. Hodges Revue.
Together these musicians represent more than two centuries of combined experience on the world's stages. They have played with legends. They have made landmark records. They have survived changing fashions, changing industries and changing times.
Yet they continue to do what they've always done best — stand on stage, plug in and deliver music with honesty, passion and absolute conviction. This All Star Outing is everything great Southern Rock has always been: loud guitars, big songs, world-class musicianship, road-tested authenticity and enough swagger to fill a freight train.
This isn't a tribute to the glory days. This is the glory days still happening.Every night. One hell of a ride.
